This site is dedicated to the memory of Anne Butcher.

Anne lost her five month battle against ovarian cancer in June 2010. She was a remarkable woman in that in all this time she never once asked "why me". In fact she even stated at one time when faced with the question "well somebody has to get it". It is hard to come to terms with this when one looks at the survival rates for other developed nations compared to the UK. In Britain it is generally much lower, due as far as can be seen to a lack of awareness and early detection. This is symbolised by the well known expression for Ovarian Cancer in the UK as the Silent Disease. In New Zealand where Anne was diagnosed they have never heard of this expression. Something must be done about it. As I draft this note the paper is getting wet with the tears that I am shedding for both Anne and the other innocent ladies who are going to come to an often unessessary and premature end due to this Cancer. Hopefully we can make a difference by supporting such funds as this, as it is clear that Ovarian Cancer survival has a very low priority in the Government scheme of things. Dearest Anne, if your going can make a difference, then the family will bear the tragety and loss with at least some hope for the future.
